Pinewood Derby Clinic

The Pinewood Derby Clinic is annual pack event where we take a Saturday before the Pinewood Derby to build and form our cars as a pack.  Many of the pack members do not have access to power tools.  We take this opportunity to get all the handyman of the pack together to set-up their power tools in an assembly line to help the scouts with the cars.

Station 1:  Design center to trace out a unique design for each car.
Station 2:  Router out the bottom of the car for weight placement
Station 3:  Jigsaw cut of traced design.
Station 4:  Sanding of the cut
Station 5:  Wheel balancing and smoothingStation 6:  Axle smoothing to remove the bumps from the nails
Station 7:  Weighing and distribution of weights
Station 8:  Licensing

The end result is a car ready for final sanding, painting, design, and assembling eliminating the need for any power tools.

We tend to hold this event in January to give the scouts a chance to finish their cars before the Derby in March.  If you like working with tools or racing cars, please consider joining us in this classic pack tradition.

What to Expect at Pack Campouts

The leadership of Pack 1250 tries very hard to provide a comprehensive outdoor program.  We take pride in the campouts and activities that we plan.  Due to the size of our pack, our campouts are usually fairly crowded, even when camping in primitive or group areas.  Our outdoor plans are designed to help make large group camping as comfortable for everyone as possible.

At each campout, campsites will be designated by den.  Please keep in mind that families arrive throughout the evening on Friday.  Be cognizant of the amount of tents that will be in your area and set up your tent in an appropriate place for its size.  Also, please be familiar with setting up and breaking down your own tent.  There is not always time or availability for someone to help you.

The pack will provide 3 meals for every full day of camping as well as a breakfast for the day of departure. The pack will also have coolers with cold drinks available through the entire campout.  This is included in the cost of the campout.  Families will be responsible for their own dinner on the evening of arrival.

We have listed a number of rules on the Camping Rules page that must govern our behavior during family campouts. Many of these rules are BSA rules which must be adhered to in order to receive BSA insurance coverage for all. We ask that everyone review and follow these rules on all family campouts in order to make our campouts enjoyable for everyone. We want everyone to have fun and be able to participate in all camp activities.

Lastly, every family need to complete and turn in the Class 1 medical forms to your den leader or outdoor chair prior to the campout for every person going on the campout.  Also, please take the appropriate, free online training (See training page) prior to the campout and bring the completion certificate to the campout.
